Speculative Instruments of the Black Gooey Universe is a publication constructed from the collective imagination of participants engaged in 10 weeks of critical theory and hardware interdisciplinary study stewarded by American Artist, Zainab Aliyu, Taylor Levy and Che-Wei Wang at the School for Poetic Computation. Through open blueprints, creative narratives, and provocative illustrations, we invite readers into a speculative space posited by American Artist where Blackness forms the foundation of virtual creation. These 40+ imagined tools, technologies, and practices probe and reimagine the complexities of the digital world, countering the obscured layers of computing and its embedded racial biases. This publication is an open invitation to rethink and remix our approach to technological invention and the possibilities of transformative change. It is an exploration of the generative possibilities of the Black Gooey Universe.
